Grace Period Changes with CITB Renewal Certificates

The CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) has recently announced a dramatic change in the Site Safety Plus Scheme Rules. CITB are removing the certificate grace period; currently the grace period is six months after a certificate expires. The grace period for the Site Safety Plus scheme has been removed to bring the scheme in line with other Cskills Awards products.

In this time the individual can re-new their certificate on a refresher course instead of having to sit a full course.

All delegates need to aware of when their certificates expire and assure that they attend a refresher course before the end date of their certificate, or else they will have to attend the full course again.

Therefore to allow time for this requirement to become embedded, Cskills Awards will continue the current process until 31 December 2015 after which date no registrations will be made that are beyond the end date of the certificate without formal appeal to the CITB.

If you would like to book a refresher course please call our Head Office on 0121 213 5000 or email trainingteam@webbs-training.com

BBC The One Show at Webbs Training Services

Webb’s were recently pleased to welcome the comedian Arthur Smith and the production team from the One Show to our Training Centre in Birmingham .

Arthur and the Film crew spent the whole day at Webbs. Arthur had a go at the Ladder Association theory assessment. But as he had not had the theory training he failed to achieve the required pass mark.

Arthur and The One Show are promoting a Health and Safety message, debating has ‘Health and Safety Gone Mad?’

Taking the sensible Health & Safety stand is Ed Friend a retired Health & Safety Executive Adviser. Ed told us many tales of serious incidents and even fatalities that he had investigated during his career, many of them associated to work at height and unsafe ladder use

Ian Carwardine, Webb’s Ladder Association instructor and Ladder Association training committee member, spent time with Arthur trying to convince him of the importance of training. Arthur was able to take part in a practical demonstration of the safe use of ladders.

Although we at Webb’s are sure Arthur Smith and the One Show’s teams goal for the day was a light hearted look at Health & Safety, we feel that they left with a more serious view point. The incorrect use of ladders and steps can cause serious injury and even fatalities. All employers have a duty under Health & Safety legislation to train in the safe use of ladders & steps and provide safe tools & equipment.
Falls from ladders and steps are always avoidable!!

Richard Wood (Webb’s Director) would like to thank The One Show for giving us this opportunity of raising awareness of the high number of injuries caused by the incorrect use of ladders & steps. Webb’s are proud to be associated with The Ladder Association and encourage employers to take seriously their duties regarding supplying of equipment & training to all employees.
